Before any one can incorporate a new service into their practice they must know the economics of doing such. TCD adds revenue as well as improving quality of care.
Their are 5 CPTcodes that can be performed with a TCD machine. Two to four codes are typically performed per patient. The reimbursements are quite substantial due to the technical difficulty of performing the study.
Every machine on the market can perform each code adequately , head frames can make emboli detection quicker but is not usually worth the additional cost. There is no additional procedure code for M-mode or Transcranial imaging.
